SAY NO TO SUICIDE- BY PRINCEWILL CHUKWUKA OGBOLU
RE: DELSU PHARMACY STUDENT COMMIT SUICIDE OVER INCESSANT CARRYOVERS.
The sullenness brought by the self-annihilation of a fellow Delsuite left me with a thinking cap. As much as I detest bad news on my timeline, this one is to draw lessons for some persons. I wondered why such a young man could place so much value on his academics and so little on himself until I stumbled upon some facts.
Such actions do not happen spontaneously, Human beings can be pushy especially parents. In the same vain, we might need each other’s support at some point for soothing if and only when we open up.
It’s fine to think you can exist and maintain stable mental attitude without others in life, but we must also learn to coexist, a simple “Hi, how are you doing today” you say to a friend, a coursemate, a neighbour can lead to a deep discussion that could avert some disarray. One must always learn to open up.
I blame parents who push their children too hard to be what they never were, it’s fine to want your child to succeed big but most parents don’t know when to draw the line especially us Africans.
“You must graduate with a first class, you must read medicine” and so on. They base success in life on academic excellence. I rather encourage my children to believe in themselves and in whatever calling they choose on their own.
The son of a Billionaire doing Engineering has no better future other than that which he works towards, likewise the son of a shoemaker following in his father’s footstep.
Certainty is not based on background. You can see this played out in the lives of former Heads of State: Musa Yar’adua and General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), Davido and Wizkid, Oprah Winfrey and Joseph Safra.
What will be will be if you just do you.
Finally, In as much as we love to excel in all we choose to do, academic failure in one field doesn’t mean failure in all, not to mention failure in life, what matters most in all is self fulfilment.
It is well.
Say no to suicide!
